I have been reading a book called Lose it for Life, it was written by two christian authors that have had their own weight struggles and how we need to be seeking God to replace over eating and other harmful food habits.
I have found myself very encouraged by this book andwould recommend it to anyone..it is an easy read, but challenging and encouraging.
Anyways, today one of the verses that the authors pointed out was 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 which says
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."
I have read this verse a lot and it has provided me with great encouragement through many other trials but I have never saw my weight loss journey as a trial. Maybe because apart of me thinks that trials are events brought on outside of ourselves and not things we cause ourselves. But truthfully trials of any kind, even the ones brought on by our own sin, are still trials.
I think about when I am on this journey and I am 30-50pds lighter down the road and I see someone coming and beginning the journey new. And I think to myself I want to live this verse out and come along side a newbe, encourage and let them know that it is possible, that one day, one moment, one dinner, one snack at a time, it is possible to not give into unhealthy desires. It is possible to replace a love of food with a love of God.
Lose it for Life :) is a great book that also talks about the emotional issues that go into being overweight and obese and how one can overcome even the issues of our hearts. I have walked away from the book feeling hopeful, positive, and inspired to keep on pressing on.
