I think that whenever we have a major area of our lives to work on accountability plays a key into our success.
A few months ago I was really struggling with getting in daily scripture reading, not that I think reading my bible everyday is going to transform me into this miraculous being over night, but I fully believe that unless we are actively replacing all the junk that our society/and our own sin fills are mind with we aren't really going to have much success with the "transforming" of our minds that Paul talks about in Romans 12:1-2.
A friend of mine was struggling with the same issue and so for the last several months we simply email each other a synopsis of what we read for that day. It has been great! Not only has it helped me stay in the word, but it has also helped grow a beautiful friendship. Now there are weeks that are super busy and neither one gets around to reading or emailing the other and we don't beat each other up about that, but the accountability makes us want to start back in as soon as we can because we know that someone else enjoys reading what we are learning.
One of the best things that WW supplies is the accountability to stay on plan. We know that every week we are going to be asked to step on the scale and that someone else is waiting to tell us the good news of a pound or two being lost. I certainly don't want to take away from their excitement so I have an extra incentive through out the week to work hard. But not everyone has the access or ability to join weight watchers and even if you do I still believe that it is good to have someone in our lives that we can be honest with at the end of the day and shoot a quick email to say "I did this, this, and this to help me on my journey this week." I have a friend that I am going to be starting that with this week :) I'm looking forward to seeing how God is going to work in our lives showing us that all things really are possible when we rely on him. I am also looking forward to the budding of a beautiful friendship.
I don't believe that we were meant to go through trials and even joys alone. So I would encourage you today to find someone to email everyday what it is you are both doing and learning on any journey of your life. We all have things that we need to work on.
Accountability really does make a difference and it certainly does inspire.
