Well, it has been a very stressful but yet joyous 2 weeks in the Christensen house hold.
It first started with my sweet husband getting very ill :( just his normal bout of bronichitis. He seems to get it at this time of the year. Then that Saturday I began experience very abnormal and severe chest pain. It didn't quite feel like what I though a heart attack should feel like so I waited to go to the doctors for 3days. During those 3days the pain became unbearable so I finally gave in and went to the Urgent Care. At such Urgent Care the doctor did an EKG, and a chest x-ray and all appeared normal so my pain was determined to be Chlonstiditis (meaning unexplained chest pain) he told me to take 2 Aleave every day and hopefully the pain would go away soon.
We went to Hillard Ohio (just outside of Columbus Ohio) for ThanksGiving and despite my severe pain we still had a great time with family. Friday night into Saturday I began to feel great skin discomfort along my bra line and noticed a severe rash occuring. It looked a lot like a rash one would get from a poisionous plant of some sort. We traveled home and on Sunday enjoyed a morning of worship at church. I then explained to some friends about my rash and discomfort and one of them mentioned that it could be Shingles. So after arriving home I researched Shingles and sure enough my symptoms matched. I went back to the Urgent Care and without evening telling the doctor what i thought it was, the doctor upon one look, immediately said that it was Shingles. I was given some meds to help fight off the virus and was told not to be surpised if one of my kiddos' has chicken pox as that is what causes Shingles to be triggered.
To bring myself a little cheer I have written this small chorus, sung to the music of "Oh Christmas Tree"
OH Shingles, Oh Shingles, why did you have to come as so.
Oh Shingles, Oh Shingles, why did you have to come as so.
You are so blisterous and it's no fun
I wish that you would not have come.
Oh Shingles, Oh Shingles, why did you have to come as so.
So all though Shingles is painful and annoying it is not contagious and as long as I keep my blisterous rash covered it can not be spread to others. I was relieved as this ment that I would not have to be quarantined to the house for several weeks or so I thought.
It was about 5:00pm and then i noticed "it." That round, red blot, full of pimple like cloudy fluid, on Zachary's neck. I lifted up his shirt to find several more red spots on his back and I am sure that there is more to come as Zachary has chicken pox :( unlike Shingles chicken pox is very contagious so we will be quarantined until it clears up which can take anywhere between 5-20days...we are hoping for the 5days. And I'm sure that Ellie's bout with the pox will come soon as well. I hope though that it won't it will be quick for her as she did get the vaccine when she was 12months old.
I feel bad for my kiddo's they are so young and they don't understand why the feel so yucky, why they feel so itchy. They hate it, and i'm sure it's no fun for them but at this moment I wish I just had the pox as Shingles feels a whole lot worse than i remember chicken pox feeling and I had a severe case of the pox at 6yrs old.
So to make me laugh everyone sing with me now...
Oh Shingles, Oh Shingles, why did you have to come as so.

Girl, if you were here, everyone would want you to come over and let Zach kiss them. A lot of moms have opted against the chicken pox vaccine and they want their kids to get it while they are young when it isn't so severe. Shoot, I think I would want you to try and give it to my kids, even though they've had some of the vaccine. It can wear off later in life and actually be more dangerous than just having the dang pox all ready.
Still, I'm sorry you got shingles. They are miserable from all I've heard. I'm so sorry and I hope you kick it quickly.
lol, they can kiss Zach all they want :) He only has a few spots right now...we're still waiting it out we'll see how it turns out. It may not actually be pox... but one of my kids have got to have it. The doc said that that is what probably triggered it in me...
but i've also been told that even if a kid has been vaccinated and they get exposed they can still spread the virus even if they don't actually get symptoms themselves... so maybe Ellie gave it to me...lol
